Youth Sports Organization and America’s Girls
A long time ago (1972), the US Government passed a law that changed the lives of every girl in the country. Title IX made it a requirement that schools and government agencies make sports equal between boys and girls. There were definitely some people, then and now, that disliked the law. But the effect has been huge.
Leadership in Girls
There are more female CEOs today than at any time in history. The impact of sports for girls can’t be underestimated. Here are a few quotes from reliable sources that we think make the point:
“The study found that 90% of the women surveyed had played sports either at primary and secondary school, or during university or other tertiary education, with this proportion rising to 96% among C-suite women. Moreover, in comparing C-level female respondents to other female managers, far more had participated in sports at a higher level. Ultimately, 55% of the C-suite women had played sports at a university level, compared with 39% of other female managers.” Forbes Magazine, accessed 8/11/2015
Sports, Health, and Girls
“Research on the benefits of sports and exercise for girls in particular has been particularly optimistic. The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports reports that athletically active girls develop increased self-esteem, confidence, and have a healthier body image than girls who don’t take part in sports. They are also more likely to finish high school and college. According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who participate in sports are less likely to become pregnant as teenagers and are less likely to suffer from depression. There is also evidence that athletic activity can decrease the likelihood of developing breast cancer and osteoporosis.” –University of Florida website, accessed 8/11/2015
